I LOVE this time of the year! Even though I live in hot and muggy Florida, I still enjoy pretending its cool enough outside to start baking things like pumpkin bread and Apple pie!

Pumpkin pie has always been my favorite, and pecan pie is my husbands. My aunt has cornered the pumpkin pie making in our family. My parents have huge pecan trees in their front yard and my mom makes the BEST pecan pies. So, when I wanted to add something special to our fall get togethers, I decided to use the best recipe for apple pie!

This apple pie recipe is awesome! Because the filling would always overflow on other pies like this, you pour the sugar mixture over the top of the lattice and let me tell you, this is a n easy recipe but it is definitely the best!I LOVE this time of the year! Pie Crusts
Servings: slices
Instructions
Apple Pie
  1. Melt butter in a sauce pan and use flour to make a rue. Add water.
  2. Mix in sugars and simmer while stirring until they are melted into the butter. Set aside.
  3. Place one of the pie crusts on the bottom of a greased pie plate. Pile all of the sliced apples in the crust.
  4. Take the other pie crust and cut it in to 1/2 inch strips using a pizza cutter. Lay strips over the top of the pie, half going one way, half going the other in a criss cross pattern.
  5. Make sure to leave room for the sugar mix to be poured over the top of the pie and get down into the holes of the lattice.
  6. Slowly pour sugar mixture over the top of the lattice making sure to get the entire pie.
  7. Bake in a 350 degree oven for an hour. Take out of the oven and let the pie cool for about 15 minutes before cutting.
Pie Crusts
  1. Sift together flour and salt in a large bowl.
  2. Add in shortening 1 tbsp at a time with a fork until the mixture is flaky.
  3. Add water in 1 tbsp at a time and continue to toss with the fork until the pastry is smooth.
  4. Refrigerate for about 1 hour or even over night.
  5. Divide dough in half, roll out each half on a lightly floured surface until about 1/8 inch thick.
  6. Fold dough over to pick it up and place it in the greased pie plate. Unfold it and press it down evenly around the edges, cutting off any part that hangs over.
